Host a STEM outing for your Boy Scout troop.
A unique educational experience that gets scouts excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through the use of education based video games and programs such as:
Kerbal Space Program
Learn some fairly realistic physics, basic orbital mechanics, and generic mental strategies. In this exercise, students will design and build a spacecraft worthy of launching into space and landing safely on another planet.
Blend scientific inquiry and technology design processes through project based learning, critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. Minecraft teaches spatial reasoning, engineering concepts, and even helps build hand-eye coordination. Activities include basic 3D design, world building concepts, custom resource pack, simple command block programming, intro to Redstone and creating custom skins. After this one hour course Boy Scouts will have the option to stay and play their favorite video games for free for an hour!
STEM Lego Robotics
Learn the hardware and software needed to make a robot. As part of a team building exercise, students will develop teamwork skills as each member will have a specific role in building. They will follow directions to build their robot, then program it to finish a maze. After successfully finishing the maze, they will have the opportunity to program it to do what they want. After this two hour robotics course Boy Scouts will have the option to stay and play their favorite video games for free for an hour!
